The Gift of a child

I’ll lend you for a little time
A child of mine, he said,
For you to love her while she lives
And mourn for when she’s gone.

It may be one or thirteen years,
Or twenty-two, or three,
But will you, till I call her back
Take care of her for me?

She’ll bring her charm to gladden you
And should her stay be brief,
You’ll have her lovely memories
As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.

I’ve looked this wide world over
In search of teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lane
I’ve decided upon you.

Now will you give her all your love
Nor think the labour vain
And hate me when I come to call
To take her home again.

I fancy that I heard them say
‘Dear Lord thy will be done,
For all the joy, this child will bring
The risk of grief, we’ll run.

We’ll shelter her with tenderness
And love her while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known
Forever grateful stay.

And should the angels call for her
Much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the sadness that we feel
And try to understand.

I cant imagine thepain your family are going through at this sad time. Such a beautiful little girl, but they will have so many happy memories of you. You have probably suffered so much in your little life and battled with all your heart. Now you are free from pain, i have just lost my beautiful cousin from lung cancer and my heart is broken.
